Sillery Gaon, a pristine Himalayan village nestled at an altitude of 6000 ft. is an ideal romantic escape. The entire ambiance of the place is shrouded with tranquility, only interrupted by the chirping of birds. Located at a distance of around 8 km from Pedong and 5 km from 21 Miles, this sleepy village of New Darjeeling offers a magnificent view of the Kanchendzonga, the third highest peak in the world. The shimmering silver peak and the serenity around entice every traveller visiting the village.
The name “Sillery” is derived from the name of a plant that grows in abundance in the region. This area also abounds in Cinchona Plantation which was introduced in this region by the British, as a source of Quinine used for the treatment of Malaria. However, cultivation still continues today, despite alternative quinine derivatives.
This quaint village of Sillarygaon houses around 30 families for whom felling of trees and basic agriculture was a way of life before village eco-tourism paved the way for an alternative source of livelihood. A few families have made collective effort to promote eco-tourism with the introduction of a few Home stays in the face of adverse conditions. With no permanent electricity supply in the village, the villagers ensure comfort and electricity to tourists by using generators or providing candles and kerosene lamps at night.
All the villagers make a concerted effort to maintain the ambience of a clean village. The village offers a nice view of the Kanchendzonga massif and provide trekkers with a chance to hike to the Ramitey view point, the Tinchuley View point as well as the Damsang Fort.
Sillarygaon has a soothing and salubrious climate. It is worth visiting throughout the year. It is liked by everyone – children, adults, and elders alike.

You can also enjoy short treks to various sightseeing points around Sillery Gaon like Tinchuley, Ramitey and Damsang Fort. The place is also a heaven for avid bird watchers. AIR : The nearest Airport to Sillerygaon is Bagdogra (IXB) which is about 109 kms or a drive of about 4.5 hours depending upon road conditions.
RAIL: The nearest rail heads are Siliguri (about 86 kms) and New Jalpaiguri (about 95 kms), a drive of about 3hrs 45 mins.
